Ad creative AI uses image and video generation models to turn a product photo or a short description into ad images and videos in minutes. For Facebook and Instagram ads it is best at producing many variations to test. It still needs a human to check every claim, and Meta labels some AI-made ads.
What is AI ad creative?
AI ad creative means ad images, videos and copy made with generative AI models rather than a photo shoot or an editor. The input is a prompt, a product photo, or both. The output is a set of assets sized for the placements you run: square for the feed, vertical for Reels and Stories.
It comes in three shapes. Ad platforms build it in: Meta's Advantage+ creative "uses AI to generate and enhance ad variations across single image, video and carousel formats", with text generation, image expansion, background generation and image animation. Standalone AI ad generators make assets you download and upload. And copilots like Tempomat generate assets next to your ad data, so the test you launch is based on what is already working.
How does an AI Facebook ad generator work?
- Prompt building. Your description is combined with a style (studio, lifestyle, minimal), the aspect ratio, your brand voice and a list of things to avoid, such as distorted text or watermarks.
- Image generation. A text-to-image model draws the scene. With a product photo as a reference, an image-editing model places your actual product in a new setting instead of inventing one.
- Video generation. An image-to-video model animates a still: a slow push-in, a turn of the bottle, light moving across the label. Text-to-video models create a scene from words alone.
- Review and resize. You pick the variants worth testing and export them for each placement.
The models are good at backgrounds, lighting, motion and volume. They are weaker at small text on packaging, hands, and anything that must be exactly right, like a logo or a price. That is why product-photo-based generation usually beats pure text-to-image for e-commerce: the product stays real, only the scene is made up.
What kind of AI-generated Facebook ads should you test first?
Nobody can promise which creative will win; that is what the test is for. What AI changes is how many ideas you can afford to test. A few patterns are worth starting with:
- Vertical video with sound. Meta's own Reels ads page reports 34.5% lower cost per result than image ads for campaigns that included 9:16 video ads with audio and key messages in the safe zone. Product videos made from a still are the cheapest way to get there.
- One product, several scenes. The same product on a bathroom shelf, in a gym bag and on a desk tells you which context your buyers respond to.
- Hooks over polish. The first second decides whether people stop scrolling. Vary the opening shot before you vary the colour grade.
- Angles from what already runs. Your own best ads and competitors' long-running ads are better starting points than a blank prompt.
Judge the results on cost per result and ROAS against your break-even line, not on how good the image looks. Our ROAS formula guide shows how to work out that line from your margin.
How do you keep AI ad creative brand-safe?
- No real people without consent. Generating a celebrity or a real person's likeness invites a rejected ad and a legal problem. Use your own product, your own team with permission, or AI people who don't exist.
- No claims the product can't back up. A model will happily write "clinically proven". Health, weight-loss and income claims are restricted by Meta's advertising standards; check every line of copy.
- Keep the product real. If the generated bottle has a different label from the one you ship, customers will notice. Use the product photo as the source.
- Look at every asset before it runs. AI makes many variants fast; a person should still see each one before it spends money.
Does Meta label AI-generated ads?
Sometimes. Meta explained its approach in 2025 and updated it on June 1, 2026. When Meta's own generative AI tools make a significant edit to an ad's image or video, it applies an AI label behind the three-dot menu or next to "Sponsored". When the result includes an AI-generated photorealistic human, the label appears next to "Sponsored". Meta also detects ads made with third-party AI tools through industry-standard signals and applies an "AI info" label.
Minor changes such as resizing or colour correction don't get a label, according to Meta's help centre. The stricter rule is for social issue, election and political ads: advertisers must disclose photorealistic images, video or realistic audio created or edited with third-party AI, including a realistic-looking person who doesn't exist, or Meta rejects the ad. Policies change, so check Meta's pages before a launch; these were checked on October 4, 2026.
From one product photo to a test campaign: a workflow
- Pick the product and the angle. One product, one promise, one audience. Write the angle in a sentence before you generate anything.
- Generate 4–8 images around that angle from the product photo, in the aspect ratios you'll run (1:1 or 4:5 for feed, 9:16 for Reels and Stories).
- Animate the two strongest into short product videos, 5–8 seconds, vertical.
- Write copy variants in your brand voice, and check every claim.
- Build the test paused. One campaign, one ad set, the creatives as separate ads, a budget you are happy to lose while learning.
- Read results after enough spend, by cost per result and ROAS, then turn the winner into the next round's brief.
How does AI ad creative work in Tempomat?
Tempomat's Creative Studio covers steps two to five. Images are generated with Recraft models through OpenRouter, in 1:1, 4:5 or 9:16, up to four at a time, with optional style presets; a product photo can be the reference so your real product stays in the shot. Product and text-to-video use Alibaba's Wan model at 720p, 5 or 8 seconds long. An "Enhance prompt" button rewrites your prompt in your brand voice for free.
| What you make | Credits |
|---|---|
| One image | 4 |
| Product or text-to-video, 5 s | 40 |
| Product or text-to-video, 8 s | 60 |
| UGC-style presenter video, per started 15 s | 100 |
The Starter plan includes 1,500 credits a month, about 375 images if you spent them on nothing else. The cost shows before anything runs, and in chat anything at 20 credits or more asks for your approval first. A blocklist refuses prompts about weapons, adult content, drugs and well-known celebrities before any credits move. Plans are on the pricing page.
Finished assets land in the Asset Library, and "Use in campaign" opens the Campaign Builder with the creative already picked. The campaign is built paused, like every campaign in Tempomat. For talking-presenter videos, see AI UGC ads. If you are comparing dedicated generators, our Tempomat vs AdCreative.ai comparison is honest about where each one fits.
Can AI make Facebook ads?
Yes. Image and video models can generate ad creatives from a prompt or a product photo, and Meta's Advantage+ creative generates variations inside Ads Manager. A person should still check every asset and claim before it runs.
Does Meta penalise AI-generated ads?
Meta doesn't say it penalises them. It labels some: ads significantly edited with its own AI tools, ads with AI-generated photorealistic people, and ads it detects were made with third-party AI tools. Political and social issue ads must disclose realistic AI content.
What is the best format for AI-generated ads?
There is no universal winner, so test. Meta reports lower cost per result for campaigns that include 9:16 video ads with audio than for image ads, which makes vertical product videos a good first test.
How much does AI ad creative cost?
It depends on the tool. In Tempomat, an image costs 4 credits and a 5-second product video 40; the Starter plan includes 1,500 credits a month.
